Good Nutrition Is The Key To Good Health
In my childhood years, our school teachers (especially in science classes) taught us that eating the proper foods would keep us healthy. There was a chart with the food chain describing how the food groups effected body functions and performance.
Our school lunchrooms (1950’s – 1960’s) provided well-balanced meals to all the grade levels. There were no vending machines or options for food choices – everyone ate what was on the lunch ‘menu’ or they brought a nutritional lunch from home, or they went home for lunch (if they lived near the school).
Kids, when I was growing up, exercised outdoors by playing. There were no computer games and no fear of being kidnapped by some lurking stranger in the neighborhood.
We were healthy!
Fast forward the years . . . to FAST FOOD (groan)!
Now, all these years have gone by and people today are suffering from ‘convenience’. We eat convenient food and serve ourselves up with restaurant buffets. We overeat to fill some type of void in our lives. We lack exercise because there’s often not enough time in the day to fit it in. We’re OVERWEIGHT!
Not only has America become obese from food choices, but we’ve become lazy. Our bodies tell us we don’t want to do something, or can’t do something, or don’t need to do something.
Television commercials abound telling viewers how sick we are. Tobacco and alcohol have eaten away years from some people’s lives.
Baby boomers, such as myself, look in the mirror and we want to retrieve their youthfulness.
